Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command has re corded unprecedented revenue figures into the Federation Account, as it rakes N22.2 b. in June 2021.
The PTML Command despite the lull in business trade created new mechanisms for high level of stakeholders compliance and friendly business environment, which shows an outstanding performance as it hits N104,649,202,251 revenue representing 19.2 per cent increase above the amount realized within the same corresponding period of last year 2020 with N87,818,715,599.45 under review, between January and June.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Commands Image maker, DSC, Mohammed Yakubu Auwal, while quoting the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Festus Okun disclosed that, “the increase in revenue collection is due partly to operational strategies emplaced to prevent revenue leakages, promote trade facilitation and achieve seamless cargo clearance for compliants.
Yakubu said that, “It is also attributed to the volume of trade which saw comparative increases in monthly collection from March 2021 after initial revenue shortfalls in the earlier months of January and February when compared with 2020 collection.”
Giving it’s monthly breakdown analysis of 2020 and 2021 comparatively shows the sum of N16,456,582,95
4.22 in January 2020 which was 7.6 percent higher than N15,205,823,545 collected in January 2021.
The Command in February 2020 collected the sum of N13,300,872,189.64 higher by 11.9 percent than the N11,706,947,150 of February this year.
The Command recorded a huge revenue increase in monthly collection from March to June this year compared to the previous year, 2020
In March 2021, the Command generated N19,937,869,175.00 which is 27.4 percent increase above the N15,646,193,726.04 of the same month of 2020.
While in April this year, the Command collected N17,938,794,417 which is 59.6 percent higher than the N11,241,400,911.00 record of last year.
As the Command plans to increase it’s revenue profiles through the intensified efforts displayed by his officers and men, in the month of May this year it hauled in N17,606,073,741.00 against 2020 N13,661,428,914.48 collected with a 28 per cent increase, as the Command also advances steadily, made N22,253,694,223.00 as revenue in June with a 27.1 percent above the 2020 collections of N17,512,236,904.07 respectively.
A total number of 95 ships berthed at the PTML terminal carrying 17,717 containers and 118,431 imported vehicles between January and June 2021.
The Command has proven that in the area of export, it processed products with the total tonnage of 77,000.23 metric tons and free on board (FOB) value of N55,546,188,324.64 in the period under review.
Compt. OKun appreciates the officers and men for their uncompromising efforts in the effective discharge of their duties by accommodating stakeholders demand, commended their hard work, patriotism and commitment to national interest, urging them to double their efforts.
He also restated his commitment to ensure that the four hour clearance time for compliant Roll on Roll off (RoRo) cargoes is very much sustainable, adding that PTML provides opportunity for vehicle importation with speedy clearance being a model RoRo port that should discourage car smuggling through land borders as he enjoined importers and exporters to increase their level of compliance.
