The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’ Kaduna said the command made a total of 132 seizures of assorted prohibited goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N690, 821,657.94 from August 25 to October 27, 2022.

Comptroller Albashir Hamisu in charge of the Unit, who made the disclosure to newsmen during a media briefing yesterday, disclosed that the contraband were intercepted at various locations within the Zone.

The items include: 749 bags of 50Kg foreign parboiled rice, 758 bales and sacks of foreign second hand clothing, 533 cartons of foreign spaghetti and macaroni, 473 cartons of foreign pharmaceuticals, 245 pieces of used tyres, 221 of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 116 cartons of foreign female
shoes were arrested and seized.

Others are: 20 units of used imported vehicles, four vehicles used as means of conveyance, 65 bags of 25Kg foreign parboiled rice, 14 cartons of foreign body cream, 8 sacks of foreign used shoes, 9 bales of foreign second hand bags, 12 cartons of foreign cigarettes and tobacco snuff, 59×5 litres of foreign vegetable oil, 10×25 litres of foreign vegetable oil and 70 parcels of cannabis sativa.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Unit, SC Isa Sulaiman, the Unit also handed over the seized 70 parcels of cannabis sativa to the representative of the Commander NDLEA Kaduna, Assistant Commander of Narcotics (ACN) Ado Ali Kubau in the spirit of inter-agency collaboration.

The NDLEA commended the Unit for the zeal and commitment despite the technicalities and complexity of arresting drugs of this nature.

Speaking further, Compt. Hamisu attributed the success of the Unit to the sharing of intelligence by other sister agencies and effective performance management.

He enjoined the citizens to volunteer information to stem the menace of smuggling in Nigeria, while also appreciating the media for their coverage of the NCS’ anti-smuggling efforts.
