Comptroller Bomai Takes Over At PTML As Okun Bows Out

Comptroller Suleiman Bomai has assumed office as the new Customs Area Controller(CAC) of Ports Terminal and Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command as he promised to sustain the robust stakeholders engagement in the Command.

Comptroller Bomai, while taking over from Acting Assistant Comptroller General ( ACG) Festus Oyedele Okun, assured that the four hour clearance of vehicles for compliant traders will be sustained.

The new CAC also urged licensed Customs agents, importers and freight forwarders to be compliant at all times as this will guarantee them the full benefits of trade facilitation.

The new CAC said he would continually improve on the laudable revenue collection, trade facilitation, customs community relations and non compromise on their duties as left behind by his predecessor.

During the handover ceremony, Acting ACG Okun ,the immediate past Controller described the command as one blessed with dedicated officers and stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ibrahim Ali for the opportunity given him to serve in PTML Command from February 2020 to August 2022.

The outgoing Controller said revenue profile of the Command has risen from N11bn to N27bn monthly.

On his part Comptroller Bomai said at his maiden speech that ” This is not a handing over ceremony. I don’t and I have not seen where an ACG is handing over to a Comptroller. What I think we are doing here is my superior, the ACG, is conveying the directives of the CGC for me to carry on with the leadership of the command

” Acting ACG sir, your coming to PTML command has ushered in peace stability and industrial harmony with strategic communications that would help achieve efficiency in service delivery.

“Inter agency collaboration and constant engagements can solve trade disputes and promote team work for maximum results. These are necessary ingredients in the management of 21st century customs” the new CAC said

On VIN Valuation, the new CAC urged agents to provide quality data that would be of assistance in improving on the system. He reminded stakeholders that VIN Valuation was introduced on their request and would continue to be improved upon.

Acting ACG Okun is now Zonal Coordinator incharge of Zone C, Port Harcourt.

Comptroller Suleiman Bomai was born in Fika Local Government Area of present day Yobe State. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc.) in Banking and Finance from the University of Maiduguri and has served in many units and formations of the Nigeria Customs Service, which he joined in 1990.

He has vast experience spanning over three decades in the NCS having impacted positively wherever he served.
He was O/C Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), Airport, Abuja; O/C Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), Tincan Island.

He has earned special recognition and was promoted to the rank of a Deputy Comptroller (DC) of Customs after which he served as Deputy Comptroller (DC), Customs Intelligence Unit, Headquarters, Abuja. Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC), Customs Intelligence Unit, Apapa Command. Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC), Post Clearance Audit (PCA), Onne, Zone C. Acting Customs Area Controller (CAC), Oil and Gas and later substantive Customs Area Controller (CAC), Oil and Gas Command.

He has attended several courses in Nigeria and Overseas including Basic Intelligence Course in the Customs Command and Staff College Gwagwalada, Nigeria; United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Course on
illicit traffic of cultural objects at the Centre of Excellence Police Unit in Vicenza, Italy.

The new CAC of PTML Customs is also a member of professional bodies such as Fellow of the Defence College, FDC ;Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM and Fellow National Defence College Nigeria He is also a Member of the Institute of Cooperate Business Affairs Management, ICBAM.

He is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies include watching football and traveling.
